A Lazy Day

Well here we are starting the week on a cold note.  -28 when I rolled out of bed.  Kind of slows the body down, and makes you feel like a lazy day.  Just stay in to keep warm.  My little guy was very upset when I left him at school this morning.  This has been the second Monday in row that his class was to go to the KOA skiing, and it was cancelled because of the cold.  This week was worse, because I was going with him.

I just wanted to show you this ramdon card I made last night.  I found the pattern of Skor Pal a while ago.  It was actually very simple to make.

This is what it looks like stretched out.  Only problem, I have to make an envelope for it.  When all folded it measures 4x4.

Keep warm

Distress Inks

Good morning fellow bloggers.  Hope your all having a good weekend.  I am.  A Saturday that I was able to sleep in.  No workie till later.  And I woke to a beutiful sunny day and only -12 this morning.

I'm going to start with my challenge card, because I have a few to show off today.  This basket of fruit is for Cup Cake Craft Challenges-#126-Food for Thought.  The yummy fruit is cut from a cuttlebug die.  I'v been holding on to this one, not quite sure what to do with it.  The basket is made from brown ribbon weaved.  The background is distress ink on a stamp block spritzed with water.

You see techniques on-line all the time.  You may try them once, and then forget about them.  But until you spend some time doing it, you may not use it again.  Yesterday I spent some time at the Craft Nook, our local craft store.  The lovely ladies in there offer classes Thursday nights.  (I'm busy with kid things). So they will teach the class for you if you book time during the day when your available.  Well yesterday I got to play with distress inks.  Now, I use them now, but not to their full potential.  And having someone go over techniques and trying different them my make them stick in my head a little better.

Yesterday we worked on background stamping.  We started with inking up an acrylic stamp block with distress ink, and then spritzing with water.  Now stamp on watercolor paper.  We then stamped with the same blue the snowflakes.  Black ink for the sentiment, and added the cute little snowman.  When I got home I went to work stamping out several backgrounds, trying different colors.  I now have a stash to use later.  Here is a valentine that I came up with using one of the backgrounds.

After stamping the background I stamped the sentiment in black ink.  The vase is die cut with cork, and the flowers are made with 3 hearts glued together.
I have one more card from yesterdays class to show off.  This one we used a background stamp.  We started by inking up your work mat with distress ink, then stamp your background stamp onto it picking up the colors.  You then spritz the stamp lightly with water, and stamp onto your paper.  You can then add what you want to your card.

Thanks ladies.  Looking forward to my next class.

Punch Bug Red

Morning everyone.  Well the temperatures are back to normal.  -7 when I got up this morning.  Day off, and I'm trying to pack alot into today.  I was able to finish off this card during my morning tea.  Little house work soon.  And then I have to get ready to head to the school after lunch.  The little guy is doing his first french play today, so I have to slip in to see.  Take back an overdue book to the library.  Tonight is a quick supper of soup.  We only have an hour from the time the kids get home till Grant has to be at basketball, then a rush to get Sam to  swimming lessons.

Card Patterns-Sketch #99
The stamp on my card is from Sparkle Creations.  I won it from a random draw from Card Patterns.  I colored it in with watercolor pencils.  The green patterned paper is made with a Spellbinders Impressabilities floral Silhouette.  I taped it to white paper and used green distress ink.  The flower on the card is a little flower punch glued on with gold stickles in the centre.

And the Colds Still Here

The cold is still with us.  -26 again this morning, but at least it warmed up to -14 this afternoon.  Warm enough for it to snow now.
I want to say congrats to my DD on her Rememberance Day Poem.  The Legion has a contest every year.  Sam put in a poem and a poster, winning 2nd prize for her poem.  Way to go.

My card I managed to finish last night was for Crafty Card Makers.  Didn't realize I was a day off, and it's too late to enter, but I have to show it off anyway.
The challenge was Red and a Die Cut.  I stamped in red with a background splatter stamp.  One of my favs.  I then embossed it with clear embossing powder to make it stand out.  A square of decorative paper centred on front, and LOVE stamped around it.  The hearts are die cuts from my cuttlebug.

Cold Weather Here to Stay

Holy crap it's COLD.  -27 this morning when I went off to work.  I didn't see it get over -22 today, and right now it's back down to -27.  Can only image what it will be by morning.  Baked some cupcakes this afternoon, having the oven on just added more heat in the house.

My card today is one layer.  What a challenge, but I had fun with this one.  I started by stamping the flower in the center, and stamping it again on a piece of plain paper, to cut out for a mask. I then placed the mask over the flower and stamped the script with frayed burlap distress ink.  Before removing the mask I distressed around the flower with tumbled glass distress ink. I then removed the mask, and colored in with pencil crayons.  And stamped the Thank you with black ink.

This card covers two challenges

Wedding Bells

Good afternoon everyone.  Woke up to another morning of -22.  Brrrr.  Ever try to find a bathing suit in the middle of winter in a small town?  Walmart doesn't have them.  The outfitters store, well I'm not paying $70 for an eleven year old to wear a few months and then it doesn't fit.  But thank goodness for Zellers, I found a few.  Now to take her before swimming to get one.  I now I shouldn't leave things till the last minute, but thats me.

My card today is done in all white, for a wedding.  I embossed with the cuttlebug swirls.  I distressed the edges with Distress Ink in Old Paper.  The cake is an outline sticker, colored with gelly roll sakura pens.

Love Valentines

Happy Monday to everyone.  I'm really trying to stay warm today.  -24 when I got up.  Not much warmer right now.  Hubby turned the stove up in basement last night, but when he turned it back down at bedtime, he turned it off.  A little chilly down there this morning, only 15.  Had to take that new truck up to the bus stop this morning.  I wasn't standing in the cold, when I could be sitting on a heated seat.

Last night I managed to finish this lovely card for valentines.  It features a lovely flower made from sticky back canvas.  I learned this from Jen McGuire, what a talented lady.(I went back and tried to find the specific post but couldn't. I know she did it for Two Peas and a Bucket)

My card covers four challenges:
Little Red Wagon-#63-Use an envelope
Phindys Place-#38-Valentines
Cute Card Thursday-#147-Monochrome
365 Card-Day 322-Super Sketchy Sunday

Sweet Ride

After ending up with both our cars in the garage on the same day, we decided it was time we had one reliable car.  My new wheels.  We picked it up yesterday, I finally got to drive it today.  Very nice.
I've managed to finish a couple pages for my month long Christmas Album.  Here is Dec 3&4.  I did some shopping for craft supplies, and supplies for Grant's class gift.  The kids enjoying their advent calender every morning.  Randy put up the Christmas lights.  And the kids wrote their Santa letters.

On the Fifth Randy took the kids to the Santa Claus parade.  I ended up sick and couldn't go.  The kids took all the pictures for me, and picked out the ones to go in the album.

Hope everyone has a great finish to the weekend.

Best Friends

Afternoon everyone.  Day off work, so not doing too much.  Kids are still home till next week.  Took them out to the library today to get another battle book, as they had finished the ones they brought from school.  One we could only get on audio.  Then we had to search the house for a play because it's an old cassette.

My card for today was done for 365 Cards-Day 308- Super Sketchy Sunday
Sentimental Sundays-Challenge #36-Celebrate Friendship
The background was stamped and embossed in white.  I got to try out my new tool, EK Success powder tool.  Works great at keeping the powder from sticking all over.  The little girl stamp is from Hero Arts, and I colored her with watercolor pencils.  The dots on her dress were done with liquid pearls.

Here is the sketch.

Have a joyous day.

First & Latest

What a great challenge Crafty Card Makers is having.  Challenge #36-First & Latest or Greatest.
This is the first card I put onto my blog when it was started two years ago.  It is actually one of my favs.
And this one is the latest one on my blog.  The first card for 2011.

First card of 2011

Happy New Year to all.  Hope everyone has a wonderful 2011.  It's been a relaxing day.  Played some video games with the kids this morning.  Had time to sit at the computer with my tea (a couple cups) and browse all the blogs, and challenge sites I've been missing.  And had time to make my first card of 2011.  After dinner we picked up all the Christmas stuff.  Packed it away for another year.  It's been a little quiet around here today.  Sam is sick. Soar throat, feeling sick.  She hasn't eaten much today.  And for her to sleep most of the day on the couch, she has to be feeling pretty bad.  She managed to stay up and watch a movie with us last night, to see her first New Years come in.  Now she says she's not staying up late again, because it made her sick.

The yellow paper started out white with the flowered background stamp embossed in white.  I colored some of the flowers with watercolor pencils, and then with a glaze pen overtop.  I then used yellow Distress Ink to color over all the paper, and straw color around the edges.  The stamped image was colored with watercolor pencils.  I stamped it three times.  Cutting out the open flower, mounting it with a foam square, and the bird, glued down at the head and tail, and a foam square under the wing.
This card was made for:
